Pecan and Apple and Pumpkin, Oh My!
As the Thanksgiving season rolls around, one thing that always comes to mind is desserts, especially pies! From the smell of cinnamon to the flaky crusts, Thanksgiving pies are truly the stars of the dessert table. Whether you’re a fan of pecan, apple, or sweet potato pie, it’s hard to deny the magic that a homemade pie brings to the holiday season. For me, the ultimate Thanksgiving pie will always be pumpkin pie.
Pumpkin pie just feels like Thanksgiving. There’s something about that spiced pumpkin filling, the smooth texture and the perfect balance of sweet flavors that scream fall in the best way possible. When the warm pumpkin pie comes out of the oven, it’s like the unofficial kickoff to the holiday festivities. Pair it with a lot of whipped cream, and I’m in Thanksgiving heaven. My dad and I always get together and make them for the holiday season and it is one of my favorite traditions that we do.
Aside from pumpkin pie, Thanksgiving is the best time for all sorts of pies. Apple pie is a classic, with its cinnamon-filled center and that flaky, golden crust. The pie brings me back to the feeling of fall, where every bite of those warm apples would taste like home. Pecan pie, with its sticky, caramel filling and crunchy pecan top, is always a rich and tasty treat.
But, no matter how many different pies are on the Thanksgiving table, pumpkin pie holds a special place in my heart. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of it all. I remember growing up and smelling the spices as the pie baked, knowing that dessert would be the perfect ending to our Thanksgiving feast. Or maybe it’s just the way the pumpkin pie feels like fall in every bite. I can never resist when a piece is offered to me with a mountain of whipped cream.
So, when it comes time to pick your favorite Thanksgiving pie, there’s really no wrong answer. But if you’re like me, pumpkin pie is the true star of Thanksgiving. With its creamy texture, the perfect blend of spices and the way it captures the essence of the season, pumpkin pie will always have a permanent spot on my Thanksgiving table.
I am a huge fan of thanksgiving, especially when it comes to pies! I agree that pumpkin pie is the ultimate pie when it comes to the thanksgiving season. While pumpkin pie is delicious, I will also never turn down a warm slice of apple pie, especially if there is a scoop of vanilla ice cream along with it. My grandma is in charge of the pies every year, so she usually brings an assortment of rhubarb, pumpkin, and apple. I always make sure I get a slice of each, as each one has their own distinct flavor that I just have to try!
ReplyDeleteI love Thanksgiving food! It is one of my favorite holidays and my mom always makes Pumpkin and Pecan pie. Pumpkin is her favorite, she tends to eat the who pie herself over the course of a week or two because no one else likes it. Pecan pie is more my speed. But I agree, pies are always the star of Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteMy family loves thanksgiving, especially my grandma because that means she gets to bake her pies! I remember one time she tried making a pecan pie but not many people from the family ate it, so she’s refrained from making that one again. However, everyone always asks for the pumpkin pie! It’s a staple for our thanksgiving, I don’t think it would be the same without one so I agree when you say that pies are the star of the show!
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving is the best! I have always been more of a cake person than a pie person because of the texture but the way you described pumpkin pie made me really want a slice. I can't wait for Thanksgiving break because I haven't been able to go home yet this year and I could really use a hug from my parents and a sleep in my own bed.
