Social Media Sim Takeaways

Recently I completed the social media marketing simulation, and it was such a cool experience. The simulation had me creating organic posts, designing paid advertisements, negotiating with influencers and eventually combining all three into one big campaign. It gave me a look at what goes into running a social media account, and honestly, it reminded me a lot of the work I did during my internship over the summer.

One of my favorite parts was creating and scheduling posts. I really enjoyed coming up with ideas, writing captions and making sure everything was scheduled at the right time to get the most engagement. It felt like a puzzle where I had to figure out what would resonate with the audience while staying true to the brand. Plus, seeing the posts come together on the calendar was super satisfying.

The hardest part for me was managing the budget. Figuring out how much to spend on each post or ad while still having enough left over for influencer collaborations was challenging. It made me realize how important it is to think critically about where your money is going and what will bring the best results. Even though it was tough, it was a good lesson in balancing creativity with strategy.

Negotiating with influencers was also interesting. It wasn’t just about finding someone with a big following, but someone whose audience aligned with the brand’s goals. Working out the details of the partnership took some thought, but when it clicked, it was clear how much value the right influencer could bring to a campaign.

By the end of the simulation, I was juggling organic posts, paid ads and influencer deals all at once. It was awesome seeing how these elements worked together to create a stronger campaign. It showed me how much planning and teamwork go into running a successful social media strategy.

This whole experience made me appreciate the complexity of social media marketing. It’s not just about making a post and hoping it does well. There’s so much thought behind every move, and I’m glad I got to do it on my own. The simulation was one of the most fun and practical things I’ve done for a class, and I can’t wait to use what I’ve learned in the future.

  1. I also enjoyed completing the Social Media Sims in our class! While I did enjoy creating the organic and paid social content, staying within budget as well as scheduling influencers were also very challenging for me. This is also true when having to do all of these tasks at once for the last couple rounds, as I kept going over budget. I also had multiple problems of trying to schedule influencers for too little money, resulting in them from refraining to negotiate anymore. Overall, I agree that this was a very beneficial exercise to complete and hopefully it helps up in our future careers!

  2. I found the simternship to be super informative as well! I really enjoyed formatting posts and creating a relatable style for the brand to amass followers and boost engagement rates across multiple platforms. I also really enjoyed having a budget to play around with to see how many views can be gained for allotting a certain amount of the budget on various styles of promotion.
