Polar Perspectives Podcast
This week's blog is a little different because I am excited to promote my first-ever podcast! I had the pleasure of collaborating with Elizabeth Gesler, and we had a great time talking to our interviewee about their experience in social media.
For our podcast, we sat down with Kenya Miracle, who works in social media here at Ohio Northern University (ONU) in the Marketing and Communications Office. Kenya is a graphic design major with a minor in marketing, and she has worked full-time as a marketing and communications intern for the past two summers. Currently, she continues to work part-time in the office.
During the podcast, we asked Kenya multiple different questions about her role in social media, and her answers were incredibly insightful. I learned many different things about ONU's marketing strategies and the behind-the-scenes work involved, such as the platforms they use for different events and how they target their desired audience. One of my favorite parts of the discussion was when we asked how her team stays up to date with the latest social media trends. Kenya explained that they closely follow what the bigger schools are doing and incorporate similar tactics to engage the student body. I love that they are on top of the trends and include a lot more of the students in their interviews. Recently, I have noticed a big difference in their style of marketing recently in the best way possible. They have been more interactive at different events and have been making shorter videos, TikTok style, approach to the videos and I love it.
Kenya was a lot of fun to have on our podcast and Elizabeth was a great co-host throughout the completion of this project. Although I have never had to put together a podcast, I must say it is a little weird listening to my own voice over and over again. I think I might like podcasts more because of how much more relaxed I am, not having to worry about what I look like during the interview and that it is less stressful and can be fixed when I mess up. Overall, this project was a lot of fun and gave me valuable insight into the podcast production process.
