Cool, Crisp, Cucumber Salad
Even though I don't like to admit it, I am addicted to TikTok and I thoroughly enjoy participating in some of the trends that come up from time to time. My most recent fixation has been cucumber salads. Ever since I saw content creator Logan Moffitt make one, I have been craving them. I love cucumbers, and while I’m rarely motivated to make salads, after trying this recipe, it might be the only thing I eat from here on out.
In Moffitt’s videos, he effortlessly slices cucumbers into a container and mixes them with an array of ingredients. His recipes, although rooted in simplicity, are packed with flavor, making cucumber salad a must-try trend. It’s perfect for hot weather and is easy to customize. Moffitt’s variations include everything from Asian-inspired mixes with soy sauce, garlic and sesame oil to more creative versions, such as one that mimics the flavors of a lox bagel, complete with smoked salmon, capers and cream cheese. The other day, my roommates and I had the opportunity to make some together and let me just say this salad is definitely worth a try. We decided to put garlic and herb cream cheese, pickled onions, avocado and everything but the bagel seasoning in with our cucumbers and it was delicious.
I find this trend particularly appealing because of how easy it is to make. All you need is a cucumber, a mandolin (or a sharp knife) and a few seasonings or toppings of your choice. The flexibility of the recipe has inspired a wide range of variations across social media, where others have added their own twist to the basic concept. Whether you’re looking for a salty, savory combination or something with a hint of sweetness, cucumber salad can be customized to fit anyone’s taste.
To sum up, the cucumber salad trend is more than just a passing TikTok craze—it's an easy, customizable, and delicious dish that's perfect for any occasion. If you’re looking for a refreshing, healthy snack, it’s time to grab a cucumber and get creative. This is one trend that’s definitely worth the hype!
I love cucumber salads! As an avid tik-tok watcher myself, I tried to recreate this cucumber salad a few weeks ago. I chose to do the Asian-inspired cucumber salad, as those were the ingredients I currently had in my house and, it was delicious! There are so many food and recipe trends that have grown popular as a result of tik-tok, but this one was so easy to re-create with the easy ingredient and supplies list. I also think this trend became so popular because while there are many social media channels popularizing unhealthy eating habits and recipes, this one is actually on the healthier side, only takes a few minutes to make, and tastes good!
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly going to have to try this! I've seen his videos, and I stop to watch each one but I haven't had the chance to try one yet. I love cucumbers, and I love any sort of non-vegetable salad (fruit salad, pasta salad, chicken salad, potato salad, etc.) so this is right up my alley. Maybe I'll make one and post about it sometime next week, I'll need a snack for when I go to work anyway!
ReplyDeleteI have been making these, too! I swear I watched almost every single recipe he has posted. I made my mom buy 10 cucumbers. She has banned cucumber salad from our house because I made it every night in August before I moved back to school. My favorite has been the everything bagel one because I am a bagel girl at heart. I love finding new and healthy recipes to obsess over!
