Chapter 9: LinkedIn Marketing
When I first started using LinkedIn, I saw it just as a tool to help me secure an internship and connect with my friends. It is a great resource for networking and making those important career connections we always hear about. But what I didn’t realize was that LinkedIn would quickly become so much more than that.
I remember creating my LinkedIn profile with the primary purpose of connecting with professors and peers who could guide me on my career path. My main objective was to develop my skills, experience and aspirations to open doors in the professional world. As I became more active on the platform, though, I started seeing it differently. LinkedIn isn’t just for job-seeking. It’s a community where people share insights, industry trends and content that genuinely provides value to others in their network.
As I spent more time on LinkedIn, it quickly shifted from a job-hunting tool to my go-to social media platform. Unlike other social media sites, LinkedIn encouraged me to think strategically about the content I engage with and share. Following industry leaders and participating in discussions allowed me to build credibility while expanding my knowledge in marketing. The professional and successful nature of LinkedIn felt refreshing, and I found myself checking it almost as frequently as my other social platforms, if not more.
My experience with LinkedIn went a step further when I took on a marketing role over the summer. One of my key responsibilities was using LinkedIn to promote our brand. I quickly learned how effective it can be for marketing. By crafting posts that resonated with our target audience and tapping into LinkedIn’s unique tools, I was able to engage with customers, showcase our values and build connections that supported the brand’s growth.
Through creating strategic posts and using analytics to measure engagement, I saw firsthand how LinkedIn could be leveraged to reach professionals and decision-makers. LinkedIn’s algorithm favors genuine content that provides value, which reinforced my approach to marketing which prioritizes authenticity and relevance.
I can definitely relate to first using LinkedIn as a way to secure an internship, and then realizing how important of a tool it can be. Although I have never operated a LinkedIn profile for a company, but your experience sounds very interesting and it sounds like you learned a lot!
