Too Early for a Christmas List?

I know, I know—it's only October and here I am already thinking about my Christmas list. Most people might argue it's way too soon and maybe they're right. But can you blame me for being excited? There’s something that is so inviting about the holiday season and the anticipation of picking out gifts, setting up decorations and indulging in holiday traditions makes me want to start planning early. Even if it feels a bit premature, Christmas always brings a sense of warmth and joy that I can't help but look forward to.

Christmas always has a way of sneaking up on me. I get lost in the busyness of everyday life, and before I know it, I'm scrambling to buy last-minute gifts. That sense of urgency and stress is something I want to avoid this year. My friends have been major encouragement in making my list already because my other roommates want to do a PowerPoint night where we present our lists to each other. Plus, starting early means I can think about meaningful gifts for my friends and family instead of rushing through the candy aisle for a quick last-minute sweet treat to surprise them with.

In my marketing class, we were talking about all the deals that are starting this week and how so many big retailers move their Black Friday sales earlier each year. The topic that sparked this discussion was Targets Circle Week started and how the deals are supposed to be better than Black Friday! I had to look to see what they had and if anything was going to end up on my list. Another thing that is on my radar is the Bath & Body Works Candle Day Sale. I love candles so of course I will be ready to grab a few for my friends and me. Finally, the one I must be prepared for is Prime Day. I always spend so much but it is when I normally get most of my shopping done. It's a little too convenient.

Another reason for my excitement is the nostalgia. There’s something about the holiday season that makes me feel like a kid again. Writing a Christmas list used to be one of my favorite childhood traditions. I miss the days where I would sit in my living room with the toy catalog and circle the toys that I wanted to add to my list. Now, the list might include more practical things (goodbye, toy catalogs), but the thrill is still there. Dreaming about Christmas morning, the smells of holiday cookies baking, and the cozy vibes of family gatherings bring that same excitement every year, no matter how old I get.

So, while some might say it’s too early to think about Christmas lists, I’m embracing the holiday spirit little by little. After all, it's never too early to spread a little joy. I do need more ideas for things to add to my list of things to get for my friends and family so let me know if you have any good suggestions!

  2. It is definitely NOT too early for a Christmas list. If you send it in early, Santa has more time to shop, I've heard. I love the Christmas season so much, and I can't wait for it this year. Today, I felt a real chill in the air for the first time. Hopefully, we get a lot of snow this year! It doesn't feel like Christmas without snow.

  3. I love how you're embracing the holiday spirit early! There’s nothing wrong with getting a head start on your Christmas list, especially if it helps you avoid the last-minute rush and allows you to be more thoughtful about your gifts. Plus, with all the early deals like Target Circle Week and Prime Day, it makes sense to start planning now, saving money and finding meaningful gifts sounds like a win-win to me.

  5. I don't think it's too early at all! While I love Halloween, Christmas will always be my favorite time of the year. I have so many fond memories of all of my family getting together for both Christmas Eve and Christmas day! I totally understand not wanting to get behind on picking out presents and having to choose things last minute. I think I should probably go ahead and try to find gifts for the people in my life as well as it's definitely coming up fast!

  6. I agree that Christmas is such a nostalgic time! I love being at home for the holidays and helping decorate the house for Christmas because it really does make you feel like a kid again. Unfortunately, it will never truly be the same, but I still enjoy it every year! I also hate when getting presents seems so rushed because then Christmas fees rushed as a whole, so I'm definitely getting my shopping done early this year!

  7. It is NEVER too early for a Christmas list. I feel like if I wait to make mine I always forget the things I wanted during the year. So now, if I see something I want, I put it on the list so I don't forget. I think it is a great idea to get shopping early. I feel like I'm always last minute with gifts.
